Stuart Collis Defeats Michigan State Youth Soccer Association Regains Risk Management Card for Client
In 2005, my client was wrongfully accused of criminal conduct with a minor. Because of the pending criminal charges in 2005, the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) revoked his risk management card without a formal hearing. When he was cleared in 2006, the MSYSA initially gave him his card back only to revoke it in 2007 claiming that it was an error to give him his risk management card back. Furthermore, the MSYSA published his name on a national list that prohibited any other United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) affiliated entity from issuing him a Risk Management Card. Without this card, he could not coach or referee any youth soccer in the largest soccer leagues in any state.

The MSYSA took the position that since he did not appeal their decision to revoke his card in 2005 within 7 days of the revocation that he was not ever entitled to get his Risk management card back. However, USYSA guidelines specifically stated that my client was entitled to a reinstatement hearing at any time after the criminal charges were dropped. Working with the USYSA, Mr. Collis was able to get a reinstatement hearing with the MSYSA and after hearing evidence on the case, the MSYSA reinstated his client’s Risk Management Card.
